What individual tax preparation includes

Returns start at $450 and cover federal and state filings for individuals and families, including:

  • W-2 wages and bonuses
  • Investments, brokerage accounts and cryptocurrency
  • Rental property
  • Self-employment and side income
  • Retirement income, including pensions and IRA withdrawals
  • A review of the deductions and credits you qualify for, including the new 2025 tax law changes
  • Electronic filing of your federal and Michigan returns, so you can track your refund with the IRS Where’s My Refund? tool

Individual tax preparation FAQ

How much does individual tax preparation cost?

Returns start at $450. However, more complex returns, such as those with rental property, a side business or several states, cost more. As a result, you will always know the price before any work begins.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Your W-2s, 1099s, your mortgage interest statement (Form 1098), property tax bills, records of charitable gifts, any IRS or Michigan letters, and last year’s return. In short, if you are not sure whether something matters, bring it.

Do you meet in person?

Yes. I meet clients in person in the Huntington Woods, Berkley, Royal Oak and Ferndale area, and also by video or phone.

Do you work with clients outside Michigan?

Yes. In addition to local clients, I work with clients remotely nationwide.

Should I itemize under the new SALT deduction limit?

Possibly. For example, the limit on state and local tax deductions rose to $40,400 for 2026, so more Michigan homeowners may come out ahead by itemizing. Read my SALT deduction guide.
